We've launched dogwhistlebook.com, an author website promoting the upcoming release of Chuck McCutcheon and David Mark’s fabulous new book, Dog Whistles, Walk Backs & Washington Hand Shakes. In their book, McCutcheon and Mark, two successful authors with long careers covering politics and government, humorously decode “the jargon, slang and bluster of American political speech”.
McCutcheon and Mark, rockstars in the world of political media, have their own fans and followers. Our goal for this site was to help focus attention on their latest work.
In general, when we create a website around on a single book, rather than an author website promoting multiple books or a series, we sharpen the spotlight's focus. The book takes center stage. It's often the case when we develop single-book websites that in the beginning our focus is on pre-orders and platform-building. Later, after the book launches, many sites may pivot to emphasize direct online sales. An author's other works are often cross-promoted, but the website's focus and attention remain on the star of the show.
In this case, the web design for dogwhistlebook.com needed to capture the essence of the book - a funny book about a serious subject. Bold, patriotic colors, coupled with carefully paired typography, lend a playful feel to a serious subject. The animated quotes at the top of the homepage draw attention to the subject of the book, without detracting from the overall message or call to action.
One interesting feature of this site is “suggest jargon”. It's a way for the authors to stay connected and engaged with their readers.
Congratulations to Chuck McCutcheon and David Mark on the new book. We wish you all the best! Check out the book here.
